ASFPM Foundation Future Leaders Scholarship
The ASFPM Foundation Future
Leaders Scholarship is awarded every other year to a deserving college student
entering their junior year in an undergraduate degree program or entering the final two years of a 5-year or dual degree undergraduate program. The scholarship is intended
to advance flood risk management
research and practice. The ASFPM Foundation has established eligibility
criteria, and along with a demonstration of financial need, the student must be
pursuing a course of study related to
the missions of ASFPM and ASFPM Foundation. Also, after graduation the student must plan to work in a profession that directly, or
indirectly, supports the field of flood risk management.
The scholarship will be up to $25,000 per year for two years
in direct financial assistance. The selected scholar will also receive
mentoring and support in finding a paid summer internship in a relevant
professional setting. The scholarship is offered biennially and the next application deadline is anticipated to be in February 2020.
Student Paper Competition
Every spring the Association of State Floodplain Managers conducts an annual national conference that attracts more than 1,200 people for a week-long event that showcases state-of-the-art techniques, programs, resources, materials, equipment, accessories and services to accomplish flood mitigation, risk reduction and other community goals. Each year the ASFPM Foundation sponsors a Student Paper Competition that takes place at the annual national conference. Teams consisting of one or more students are encouraged to submit abstracts on subjects relating to floodplain or stormwater management. The goals of this program are to encourage student engagement in floodplain management topics and to identify talented individuals with the potential to make lasting contributions to floodplain management's body of knowledge.
